5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is an amino acid which is the precursor to serotonin. The body uses 5-HTP to produce serotonin. Low serotonin levels have been associated with various diseases including obesity, depression, anxiety, sleep disorders and other health problems.

5-HTP may increase feelings of fullness which help you to eat less and suppress your appetite. It also may help counteract the hunger-inducing hormones like ghrelin. As we lose weight levels of these hunger inducing hormones increase thus making losing weight unsustainable and the drive to eat unbearable. It also helps counteract the overeating caused by stress and/or depression.

Serotonin imbalance may influence your mood and lead to depression. 5-HTP may help treat symptoms of depression by increasing serotonin levels but more research is needed.

5-HTP may also help reduce migraine headache frequency and promote sleep by increasing melatonin production. 5-HTP increases serotonin production which is converted to melatonin.

For weight management take 30minutes prior to meals.

For a sleep aid take 30minutes prior to bed
